These were the outfits I wore from Monday, August 26 to Friday, August 30. I decided to document what I wore this week in an attempt to make myself get up, take a shower, and get dressed every day. Why wouldn’t you be doing that anyway, you might ask? Well, after 7 years of being a Spanish teacher, I decided not to return to the classroom this year. It was a hard decision for me to make for several reasons. First, I have had a job since I was 14 years old, and I like to stay busy and make a paycheck! The idea of leaving steady and reliable employment really scared me. I didn’t have a job to fall back on once I decided to leave, so I knew that a significant portion of my days would now be spent searching for a new job.

When I decided to get my Master’s in Teaching 8 years ago, I had such high hopes for my teaching career. I can honestly say that for the past 7 years I gave the job my all. But I recently have come to terms with the fact that I was forcing a job to fit, when in my heart I knew it wasn’t right for me. I decided to take a risk to find something that will hopefully bring me more happiness and fulfillment in the long run.

As you can see, denim is a big part of my wardrobe when I’m not going to work! When I went to school everyday, I wore a lot of trousers, dresses and skirts. Since I don’t have a job to go to right now, I am able to keep things casual. Getting dressed really helps me to get into the right mindset of productivity. I am definitely the type of person who can stay in pajamas all day, but I know that if I did I would probably end up on the couch watching TV for hours–not a good way to search for a new job!

I am doing my best to be positive about this transition. I have never taken a break from working, and I think that sometimes it is good to take a step back to evaluate where we are and where we want to go. It is easy to keep going with what is comfortable, even if we know there could be more out there for us. I know that I have skills and abilities that are valuable, so I try to focus on that, and know that everything will work out in the end. Honestly, putting on cute outfits even when I have nowhere to go really helps with that!

Have you ever had a period of transition that made you scared? What did you do to overcome your fear and remain positive?

    XOXO, Persia
