Hey, all! After binge watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix, I took a moment to assess my habits with holding on to things. In general, I am someone who hates clutter. I tend to purge things on a regular basis. In terms of my wardrobe, I have a rule that if I haven’t worn something in the past 6 months, it’s got to go. However, some items in my wardrobe are just too good to ever get rid of and really stand the test of time (one of those is this skirt that I’ve had since high school). Like Marie says, if it sparks joy, keep it! This blue wrap dress has been in my possession since at least the year 2000. I bought it from Express, which was one of my favorite shopping haunts at the time, along with The Limited…those were the days!
Every summer I look forward to finding an excuse to pull this dress out of my closet. I can’t believe it’s almost 20 years old! It meets several of the criteria for a timeless piece. It is a simple and classic style (you can’t go wrong with a wrap dress), it is a decent quality piece, and it is a flattering color. It can be styled to be casual or dressy. Lately I have made an effort to be more purposeful about the items I add to my wardrobe, so these are all factors that I keep in mind when making new purchases. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good trend, but I try to buy things that will work with what I already own and that I know I will get good use out of.
Do you have any pieces in your closet that you know you’ll never get rid of?
XOXO, Persia
